About Bill and Peggy Paty Kaiaka Bay Beach Park
Kaiaka Bay Beach Park, officially known as the Bill and Peggy Paty Kaiaka Bay Beach Park, redefines camping on Oahu’s North Shore with its unique combination of scenic coastline, Hawaiian cultural history, and recreational opportunities. Set on a 53-acre peninsula, this campground offers expansive grassy areas for relaxation, breathtaking sunsets, and convenient proximity to the historic surf town of Hale'iwa, just a three-minute drive away. Despite its open layout and communal atmosphere, the park’s peaceful vibe and ocean views make it a destination for those seeking immersion in natural beauty and local culture.
The campground features seven designated sites, including ADA-compliant options, with each offering generous space for tents and camping gear. While the facilities at the park—such as restrooms, outdoor showers, and picnic tables—are basic, they meet essential needs. Water spouts are available for convenience, though grilling facilities are not provided. The sandy beach at the eastern side of the park is suitable for swimming, while the rocky western shoreline, dotted with tide pools, is popular with local fishermen. A historic balancing rock, Pohaku Lan’i, adds cultural significance to the site, as it was once a place of worship for Hawaiian chiefs.
Centrally located on Oahu's North Shore, the campground places visitors within easy reach of Waimea Bay, Hale'iwa Ali'i Beach, and Pua'ena Point, all under a 30-minute drive. This accessibility to nearby beaches, along with the charm of Hale'iwa's shops and eateries, makes the park an excellent choice for weekend getaways or day trips. While privacy between campsites is minimal, the serene atmosphere and proximity to the ocean create an unforgettable camping experience just an hour from the hustle of Waikiki.
