About Black Rock Canyon Campground
Set amid one of the densest Joshua tree forests in Joshua Tree National Park, Black Rock Canyon Campground offers an exceptional combination of tranquility, accessibility, and natural beauty. Campers will find a peaceful retreat with flush toilets, potable water, and proximity to incredible hiking trails, making it a perfect choice for both new and seasoned adventurers.
Located just south of Yucca Valley, California, this campground provides easy access to the expansive trail network of the national park's northern section. The Hi-View Nature Trail and other nearby paths offer excellent opportunities for hiking, birdwatching, and connecting with the unique desert flora and fauna. At 4,000 feet elevation, the campground enjoys a mix of sun and shade, with cool evenings ideal for relaxation by the fire. It is also a stargazer’s haven, with clear night skies unspoiled by urban light pollution.
Each of the 99 reservable campsites includes picnic tables, fire rings, and grills, and the campground features a nature center open seasonally from October to May. While RVs and trailers are welcomed, there are no hookups, adding to the rustic charm. Only a 10-minute drive to Yucca Valley ensures easy access to supplies, making Black Rock Canyon Campground a convenient base for day trips, weekend escapes, or extended vacations into the park’s iconic landscapes and rock formations.
