About Black Sandy State Park
How does camping on the shores of a pristine reservoir surrounded by abundant recreational opportunities sound? Black Sandy State Park offers a lakeside camping experience unlike most, with direct access to Hauser Lake's shimmering waters, scenic views, and a slower pace just 7 miles from Helena, Montana. Whether you’re fishing for walleye, launching a boat from the park’s ramp, or simply unwinding while watching bald eagles soar overhead, this campground promises the quintessential outdoor getaway.
This 43-acre site is tailored for outdoor enthusiasts, featuring 29 campsites with electrical hookups and six additional sites for more rustic stays. All campsites are located near the water, making them ideal for RV or tent camping. On-site amenities include flush and vault toilets, picnic tables, fire pits, drinking water access, and an RV dump station. The park’s boat ramps and swimming beach make it a hub for activities like boating, water skiing, paddleboarding, and swimming. While hiking trails are limited, short paths and nearby scenic areas offer leisurely exploration. Quiet hours from 10 PM to 7 AM preserve the peaceful atmosphere, and pets are welcome as long as they’re leashed.
Located alongside Hauser Lake, Black Sandy State Park is a quick 15-20 minute drive from Helena. Beyond the park, visitors can explore the historic Hauser Dam area, enjoy a bike ride along scenic roads, or visit Helena's museums and local eateries. This campground is an ideal destination for weekend escapes, extended vacations, or day trips into Montana’s outdoors.
