Campground Overview
About Bloody Run County Park
Bloody Run County Park defies expectations with its tranquil yet rugged charm, blending primitive camping with some of the best trout fishing in northeast Iowa. Located just west of Marquette and nestled between limestone bluffs, this 135-acre park offers direct access to the Bloody Run Trout Stream, an Iowa Outstanding Water, renowned for exceptional fishing opportunities. The park’s appeal is amplified by its proximity to the 909-acre Bloody Run State Wildlife Area, making it a prime destination for anglers, bird watchers, and nature enthusiasts alike.
The campground features 20 primitive sites equipped with fire pits and picnic tables, providing a sense of seclusion while retaining essential conveniences such as pet-friendly policies and on-site firewood. Although amenities remain basic—pit toilets are available, but there are no electric hookups or potable water—its simplicity enhances the authentic camping experience. The active train line running through the park may occasionally interrupt the stillness, but for many, the peaceful atmosphere and natural beauty far outweigh this minor disruption.
Situated within a 10-minute drive of Marquette and McGregor, Bloody Run County Park also offers easy access to the Mississippi River, the Driftless Area, and the charming historic towns along the River Bluffs Scenic Byway. Whether planning for a fishing expedition, a birding retreat, or a rustic weekend escape, this park serves as an idyllic base for immersing yourself in Iowa’s unspoiled natural splendor.
