About Bridgeport State Park
Imagine camping along 7,500 feet of tranquil freshwater shoreline at Bridgeport State Park, where desert meets lush greenery under a canopy of clear stars. Known for its striking volcanic formations called "Haystacks," manicured lawn spaces, and diverse outdoor recreation, this campground is a favorite for nature enthusiasts seeking a blend of relaxation and adventure.
Located just two miles east of Bridgeport on the north shore of Rufus Woods Lake (a reservoir of the Columbia River) and directly behind the Chief Joseph Dam, the park offers 34 campsites, including partial-hookup sites for RVs and walk-in tent spaces. All sites are thoughtfully integrated into the park’s well-maintained grounds, providing a balance of comfort and natural beauty. Amenities like restrooms, hot showers, fire pits, and a trailer dump station enhance convenience, while recreational highlights include boating, swimming, a children’s lagoon with a sandy beach, birdwatching, hiking trails, and even a 9-hole golf course.
Within a 30-minute radius, visitors can explore scenic viewpoints around the dam, partake in fishing opportunities for trout and walleye, or enjoy leisurely strolls along the lake. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or an extended stay, the serene yet activity-rich Bridgeport State Park is perfectly suited for family trips, peaceful retreats, or stargazing escapes.
