About Buckeye Campground
The rugged dirt road to Buckeye Campground rewards adventurers with a serene haven perched along the tranquil Buckeye Creek, where the scent of Jeffrey and Lodgepole pines fills the crisp mountain air. This remote campground, located roughly three miles from Bridgeport, California, and nestled at 7,000 feet elevation in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, offers a back-to-basics camping experience that excels in peaceful seclusion, natural beauty, and proximity to the iconic Hoover Wilderness.
With 68 first-come, first-served sites, Buckeye Campground caters to tent campers and small vehicles, each site featuring picnic tables, fire pits, and bear-proof storage lockers to ensure safety in this active bear habitat. Vault toilets and trash services are available, though campers should note the absence of potable water. The nearby Buckeye Hot Springs, a short walk from the campground, provide a unique and relaxing geothermal soak over a creek-side rock overhang, while fishing enthusiasts can enjoy the calm waters of Buckeye Creek or venture to Twin Lakes, just four miles away.
A gateway to exceptional outdoor activities, the campground grants access to scenic hiking trails into the Hoover Wilderness and beyond, including Eagle Mountain's rugged flanks. Whether for a weekend retreat, an extended immersion in nature, or an adventurous day trip to nearby Yosemite trails, Buckeye Campground offers a memorable escape into the remote splendor of California's Eastern Sierra.
