Perched on the northeast shores of Lake Mendocino, the Bushay Recreation Area campground offers an expansive and picturesque retreat where rolling hills meet shimmering waters and the Mendocino Range looms in the background. This destination captivates campers with its balance of accessibility and seclusion, diverse recreational opportunities, and well-maintained facilities.
The campground features 136 individual campsites and three group sites, many of which boast scenic views of Lake Mendocino. On-site amenities include showers, flush and vault toilets, drinking water, picnic areas, and a dump station, ensuring a comfortable camping experience for both tents and RVs. For equestrian enthusiasts, there’s a horse staging area near the Kaweyo Trailhead. The campground facilitates easy access to numerous activities, including boating, kayaking, hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. Meanwhile, summer evenings come alive with amphitheater campfire programs, perfect for families and groups. While no sites are directly lakeside, several trails lead to the water, some with steep terrain.
Located just 15 minutes from Ukiah, campers here enjoy the close proximity to this charming town, known for its farmers' markets, local wines, and dining options. The surrounding area offers nature-oriented adventures, from exploring Mendocino National Forest to enjoying Lake Mendocino’s generous recreational offerings, such as paddleboarding and horseback riding.
