Castle Crags State Park

Beneath the towering granite spires of Castle Crags, Castle Crags State Park Campground offers a unique blend of rugged beauty and thoughtful amenities, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers seeking outdoor adventure. The park features two primary campgrounds—Riverside, near the Sacramento River, and the Main Campground, nestled deeper within the wooded landscape. Together, they offer 76 campsites suitable for tents, trailers, and smaller RVs (up to 24 feet), though no hookups are available. Each site includes a fire ring, picnic table, and food locker, with nearby amenities such as hot showers, flush toilets, potable water, and a camp store. The Riverside sites provide easy access to river activities like trout fishing (catch-and-release) and swimming, while the forested Main Campground connects to hiking trailheads for both moderate and challenging routes.

Located in Castella, just six miles south of Dunsmuir and 48 miles north of Redding, Castle Crags State Park is a gateway to Northern California's scenic wonders. Its 28 miles of hiking trails include routes such as the strenuous Crags Trail, leading to breathtaking views of Mount Shasta and the granite towers, and the gentler River Trail, offering peaceful strolls along the Sacramento River. Nearby attractions like Mossbrae Falls and sections of the Pacific Crest Trail are within a short drive, making the campground a perfect base for both day trips and extended stays.
