About Cinder Hill Campground
Cinder Hill Campground in La Pine, Oregon, offers an unforgettable camping experience on the shores of the crystal-clear East Lake, set within the breathtaking Newberry National Volcanic Monument. Its remarkable lakeside location, access to diverse recreational activities, and unique geological surroundings make this a prime spot for fishing, hiking, and paddling enthusiasts. With campsites tucked into the volcanic caldera, visitors can enjoy both serene water views and direct access to the surrounding wilderness.
The campground features 108 sites accommodating both tents and RVs, many positioned close to or within walking distance of the beach. Each site includes picnic tables and fire rings with grills, and the campground provides drinking water and clean vault toilets. Two boat ramps make East Lake accessible for fishing, kayaking, and other water sports. Anglers will find the lake rich with rainbow and brown trout as well as kokanee salmon. Meanwhile, the Cinder Hill Trailhead connects campers to the Newberry Crater Trail, offering hiking routes with vistas of the caldera's volcanic terrain. Note that quiet hours and generator use restrictions enhance the tranquil atmosphere, and fire restrictions may apply due to seasonal conditions.
Located just 30 minutes from La Pine, Cinder Hill Campground grants easy access to other Newberry National Monument highlights such as the Big Obsidian Flow Trail and Paulina Falls. Both trails showcase the area's volcanic history, with lava fields and cascading waterfalls providing excellent photo opportunities. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or an extended escape, this campground delivers a well-rounded experience perfect for nature lovers craving solitude and adventure.
