About Clam Gulch State Recreation Area
Set high on bluffs overlooking Cook Inlet, Clam Gulch State Recreation Area offers dramatic panoramic views of the Aleutian Mountain Range, including the towering volcanic peaks of Mount Iliamna, Mount Redoubt, and Mount Spurr. The campground is best known for its proximity to beachcombing opportunities and the renowned Clam Gulch Beach. While razor clam harvesting is currently restricted, visitors can still enjoy hiking along the scenic shorelines, spotting moose and bald eagles, or capturing stunning photographs of Cook Inlet's ever-changing tides and volcanic backdrops. On-site amenities include picnic tables, fire pits, water pumps, and latrines, ensuring a comfortable stay while maintaining an authentic camping experience.
Located about 25 miles southwest of Kenai and 10 miles south of Ninilchik, Clam Gulch is perfectly situated for day trips to nearby fishing streams, wildlife viewing areas, and trails.
