About Coldwater Cove Campground

Coldwater Cove Campground, located at the southern tip of Clear Lake in Oregon's Willamette National Forest, offers a tranquil retreat framed by ancient lava fields, towering maples, alders, and Douglas firs, all at an elevation of 3,100 feet. The campground is characterized by its secluded atmosphere, scenic beauty, and proximity to Clear Lake's turquoise waters, making it a prime destination for nature lovers seeking solace and adventure.

With 34 campsites outfitted with picnic tables and campfire rings, the campground maintains a balance of privacy and accessibility. The absence of motorized boats on the lake ensures a serene environment ideal for canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. Visitors can explore the McKenzie River National Recreation Trail, which runs through the area and offers breathtaking loop trails around the lake, as well as shorter hikes to the nearby Sahalie and Koosah Falls, both within a mile. Clear Lake Resort, situated across the water, provides convenient amenities like boat rentals and a small store.

Located approximately 18 miles from McKenzie Bridge and accessible via Highway 126, the campground's proximity to the Mt. Washington Wilderness and the McKenzie Pass-Santiam Pass National Scenic Byway adds to its allure. Coldwater Cove Campground caters to those seeking a weekend escape, an extended nature retreat, or a base for exploring the surrounding Cascades’ unique geological features and vibrant ecosystems.
