Campground Overview

About Cordova Pass Campground

At an elevation of 11,260 feet atop Cordova Pass in the Spanish Peaks Wilderness, Cordova Pass Campground offers an unparalleled high-altitude camping experience for tent campers in southern Colorado. Characterized by its rugged beauty, proximity to scenic hiking trails, and lack of modern conveniences, this small, first-come, first-served campground caters to those seeking solitude and immersive mountain access.

This campground features just three walk-in tent sites, each equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and access to a pit toilet. While the amenities are minimal—there is no running water, electricity, or RV access—the setting is exceptional, making it a favorite spot for hikers. Trails such as the West Spanish Peak Trail (#1390) and Levy-Krier Trail (#1392) are directly accessible, leading visitors through stunning forested landscapes and granting spectacular views of the surrounding wilderness.

Located approximately 6 miles east of CO State Highway 12 near Cuchara, Cordova Pass Campground is an ideal base for day hikes, weekend getaways, and quiet mountain retreats. The area is also part of the Highway of Legends Scenic Byway, providing travelers with breathtaking driving vistas. Its seclusion and connection to the Spanish Peaks' pristine environments make it a remarkable choice for nature enthusiasts venturing into the San Isabel National Forest.
