About Corn Springs Campground
Tucked deep within the rugged Chuckwalla Mountains, Corn Springs Campground offers an unparalleled blend of natural beauty, historical intrigue, and tranquil seclusion. This Bureau of Land Management site is set amidst an oasis of California fan palms, an essential haven for migratory birds and wildlife, and features ancient Native American petroglyphs—some of the finest in the Colorado Desert—dating back over 10,000 years. With its quiet atmosphere, stargazing opportunities, and low $6 per night fee, this campground provides a unique desert retreat.
The campground features nine primitive campsites equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets. While drinking water is available, visitors are encouraged to bring their own supplies. The sites, set against a backdrop of desert palms, rugged terrain, and historic rock art, are ideal for campers seeking a remote getaway. A short interpretive trail offers insights into the area's rich cultural history, and nearby attractions include an abandoned miner’s cabin about a mile away. Hiking, birdwatching, and exploring the desert landscape make this site perfect for a day trip or an extended stay.
Located about 17 miles southeast of Desert Center and accessible via Interstate 10 and a 6.8-mile dirt road, Corn Springs Campground combines the serene isolation of a desert canyon with fascinating historical and natural features. This remote oasis offers a rare connection to the Colorado Desert’s ecological and cultural heritage, making it a hidden gem for those seeking solitude or a deeper appreciation of history and nature.
