Perched on a ridge above the East Fork of the San Juan River, the East Fork Campground offers a unique blend of tranquil seclusion, lush natural beauty, and convenient access to outdoor adventures. Just 11 miles northeast of Pagosa Springs, this campground is surrounded by ponderosa pine and Gambel oak forests, with some sites providing breathtaking views of the river below via steep, short trails.
This serene location includes 26 campsites, accommodating both tent campers and RVs, with a few pull-through spots available. Amenities include vault toilets, potable water, picnic tables, and fire grates, ensuring a comfortable experience for visitors. The area is a haven for fishing enthusiasts, with abundant fishing opportunities along the river upstream, while hikers and mountain bikers will appreciate nearby trailheads for the Coal Creek and Quartz Ridge Trails, located 2–5 miles from the campground.
Within a 30-minute drive, you can explore Treasure Falls, a stunning 100-foot waterfall with a short hike, or Silver Falls, accessible via a scenic trail perfect for adventurous visitors. Additionally, East Fork Road opens the gateway to 4WD and ATV enthusiasts heading toward Elwood Pass.
