About Edisto Beach State Park
Can you imagine camping where the calm sounds of ocean waves blend with the serene beauty of a maritime forest? That’s the charm of Edisto Beach State Park Campground on Edisto Island, South Carolina. This destination offers a unique combination of scenic beachfront camping, peaceful marshlands, and a connection to Lowcountry ecology that sets it apart from typical coastal campgrounds.
The park features two distinct camping areas: the Beachfront Campground, located steps from the Atlantic Ocean, and the Live Oak Campground, nestled in a shaded maritime forest near salt marshes. Both options include RV and tent sites with water and electrical hookups, fire rings, and picnic tables. Rustic tent camping sites are also available on the marsh side for those seeking a more secluded experience. Campers can enjoy clean restrooms, hot showers, and easy beach access through trails and boardwalks. The park also boasts seven fully furnished cabins near the salt marsh, offering additional comfort with amenities like screened porches and air conditioning.
Located about an hour southwest of Charleston, the park is part of the ACE Basin, the East Coast's largest natural reserve. Visitors can explore over four miles of ADA-accessible hiking and biking trails, connecting to highlights like the Spanish Mount Trail, which leads to a 4,000-year-old shell midden, or the scenic Scott Creek Trail through picturesque marshes. For a deeper dive into the area’s ecosystem, the on-site Environmental Learning Center offers interactive exhibits and educational programs. Water activities, such as kayaking, boating, and saltwater fishing, are popular thanks to Big Bay Creek and the extensive marshlands.
Edisto Beach State Park is ideal for weekend retreats or extended vacations. Its proximity to charming local eateries and the pristine beachfront provides the perfect balance between natural exploration and relaxation. Whether you’re shelling by the shore, observing wildlife, or enjoying a campfire under the stars, this campground offers an unforgettable coastal escape.
