Campground Overview
About Eel Creek Campground
Rising from the edge of the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, Eel Creek Campground offers a harmonious blend of seclusion, natural beauty, and direct access to some of the most impressive sand dunes in the United States. Its signature feature is the tranquil privacy provided by dense coastal shrubbery, and the unique opportunity to explore vast, wind-sculpted dunes leading to the Pacific Ocean.
The campground is divided into two loops, with 38 sites thoughtfully spaced amid rhododendrons and salal for added privacy, including several directly perched on the dunes. Amenities include picnic tables, fire rings, drinking water, and flush toilets, though there are no electrical hookups or showers. A highlight for hikers and nature enthusiasts is the John Dellenback Dunes Trail, a 2.7-mile trek through forests and across expansive dunes to reach pristine beaches, offering spectacular panoramas and workout-worthy terrain. An amphitheater and peaceful atmosphere further enhance the experience.
Located just off Highway 101, ten miles south of Reedsport and near Lakeside, Oregon, Eel Creek Campground is perfectly situated for day trips to nearby attractions like Umpqua Lighthouse State Park or fishing and boating opportunities at Tenmile and Eel Lakes. Whether for a short adventure or an extended stay, this campground immerses visitors in the grandeur of Oregon's coastal wilderness.
