Campground Overview
About El Prado Group Campground
Perched at an elevation of 5,600 feet in the Laguna Mountains, El Prado Group Campground offers a serene forest retreat amidst towering pines and oaks, distinctively marked by its endangered Laguna Skipper butterfly habitat and access to exceptional hiking trails.
This campground is designed for group camping with five individual sites—Big Sage, Buckwheat, Manzanita, Whitehorn, and Yerba Santa—that accommodate 30 to 50 people each and allow for RVs up to 40 feet at Yerba Santa. Visitors will find flush and vault toilets, potable water, and picnic essentials like fire rings and tables, ensuring a comfortable stay in a natural setting. Additionally, the grounds connect directly to the famed Big Laguna Trail System, offering expansive opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. A historic touch awaits with the 1911 El Prado Cabin, just minutes from the sites.
Located less than 5 miles from the Mount Laguna hamlet and about an hour east of San Diego, the campground is an ideal base for exploring the Pacific Crest Trail or attending educational programs at the nearby Laguna Campground. It’s perfect for weekend group getaways, extended vacations in nature, or day trips filled with high-altitude adventure and tranquility.
