Campground Overview
About Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
A stark contrast to the typical convenience of driving up to a campsite, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area challenges campers to embrace adventure with its hike-in and walk-in-only sites, set amidst the rugged beauty of Texas Hill Country. This campground stands out for its pristine natural setting, limited frills, and unrivaled stargazing opportunities, making it ideal for those seeking solitude and a connection to unspoiled wilderness.
The park features 50 tent-only campsites, including 35 walk-in sites near water and restrooms with shower access, as well as 20 primitive hike-in sites at Moss Lake and Walnut Springs, which require traversing 1 to 3 miles of uneven terrain. Primitive sites offer a back-to-basics experience with composting toilets but no water, emphasizing self-reliance and environmental stewardship. Fires are prohibited throughout the campground, prioritizing safety and preserving the region's natural ecosystem. The campground’s proximity to the iconic Enchanted Rock—a 425-foot pink granite dome—provides easy access to 11 miles of scenic hiking trails, rock climbing routes, and wildlife observation opportunities.
Located just 18 miles north of Fredericksburg, the park is within a 30-minute drive of this charming town, known for its German heritage, wineries, and quaint accommodations, offering a perfect balance between outdoor adventure and cultural exploration.
