Campground Overview
About Frijole Horse Campground
With its unique focus on equestrian camping, Frijole Horse Corral Campground in the Guadalupe Mountains National Park offers a rare blend of rugged accessibility, scenic trails, and specialized facilities designed for campers traveling with horses. Located just off U.S. 62/180 and a mile east of the Pine Springs Visitor Center, this campground is an ideal gateway for horseback exploration of the park’s picturesque desert canyons and high ridges.
The facility features essential amenities for equestrians, including four corrals, hitching posts, stock watering tanks, and space for horse trailers. Campers can also access two designated tent pads, RV parking, and a vault toilet, ensuring basic comfort amidst a rustic setting. From here, riders can embark on trails like the Foothills and Frijole trails, which lead to panoramic vistas and diverse natural habitats. However, the campground’s proximity to the highway results in noticeable traffic noise, especially from large trucks.
Set against the backdrop of the Guadalupe Mountains, this campground offers expansive views, excellent stargazing opportunities, and ample wildlife viewing. Nearby attractions include the historic Frijole Ranch and Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas, both within a short distance. While Frijole Horse Corral Campground caters specifically to horse-friendly camping, non-equestrian visitors will find alternative sites just a mile away at Pine Springs Campground, ensuring options for all adventurers.
