Campground Overview
About Goosenecks State Park Campground
Perched on the rim of a dramatic canyon, Goosenecks State Park Campground offers primitive camping with million-dollar views of the sinuous San Juan River 1,000 feet below. This remote desert outpost provides an unparalleled opportunity to experience the raw beauty of southeastern Utah's canyon country in splendid isolation.
The campground consists of a handful of basic sites scattered along the canyon rim, each offering sweeping panoramas of the entrenched meanders carved by the San Juan River over millions of years. While amenities are sparse, with only vault toilets and fire rings provided, the scenery more than compensates. At night, the vast, unpolluted sky transforms into a dazzling canopy of stars, making this an ideal spot for stargazing enthusiasts.
Located just 8 miles northwest of Mexican Hat, the campground serves as an excellent base for exploring the surrounding area. Within a 30-minute drive, visitors can access iconic desert landscapes like Valley of the Gods and Monument Valley, or tackle the thrilling switchbacks of the nearby Moki Dugway for even more expansive views of the Colorado Plateau.
