Campground Overview
About Gorge Campground
With sites perched along the pristine upper Metolius River in the Deschutes National Forest, Gorge Campground offers serene forested seclusion, abundant natural beauty, and exceptional opportunities for outdoor recreation. This peaceful campground features 18 single-family campsites nestled beneath towering Ponderosa pines, with nearly half offering direct riverfront access. Each site is outfitted with picnic tables, fire rings, and grills, accommodating tents, trailers, or RVs up to 40 feet in length. While the campground is well-maintained, amenities are minimal, with vault toilets available but no potable water or hookups.
Located just 6 miles from Camp Sherman and 30 minutes northwest of Sisters, Oregon, Gorge Campground is surrounded by striking volcanic landscapes, including the Metolius River headwaters at the base of Black Butte. Nearby attractions include the Camp Sherman Fish Viewing Platform, Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery, and extensive hiking and biking trails such as the Metolius-Windigo Trail. Anglers will find world-class fly-fishing opportunities in the crystal-clear waters of the Metolius, which are teeming with rainbow trout, bull trout, and kokanee salmon. The area also offers excellent birdwatching, wildlife viewing, and stargazing, making it ideal for a weekend retreat or extended exploration of Central Oregon's natural wonders.
