Grayback Gulch Campground

Grayback Gulch Campground, located 36 miles northeast of Boise along Idaho’s scenic Highway 21, effortlessly blends rustic charm with accessibility. Perched at an elevation of 4,200 feet amidst a dense ponderosa pine forest, it offers partial shade, an abundance of wildlife, and vibrant summer wildflowers. The campground features 15 single sites, 3 double sites, and 2 large group sites equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and paved parking. Visitors will find basic amenities such as vault toilets, drinking water from hand pumps, and trash disposal, ensuring a comfortable yet authentic camping experience. The Grayback Loop Trail starts within the campground itself, providing a convenient 1-mile hiking loop, while Mores Creek at the base of the hill is perfect for anglers targeting rainbow trout. Group sites can accommodate up to 150 and 100 people respectively, making this an excellent destination for both families and larger gatherings.

Just two miles north lies historic Idaho City, a former gold rush town where campers can explore local museums, restaurants, and shops for a dash of local culture. Highway 21, also known as the Ponderosa Pine Scenic Byway, offers breathtaking views, historic landmarks, and hot springs pools nearby.
