Campground Overview
About Harris River Campground
What sets Harris River Campground apart is its proximity to a pristine river ecosystem, offering anglers, hikers, and nature enthusiasts an immersive outdoor experience on the lush Prince of Wales Island. Conveniently located only 10 miles from the Hollis Ferry Terminal and 20 miles from the Craig/Klawock area, this campground blends accessibility with seclusion, surrounded by the temperate rainforest of the Tongass National Forest.
The campground features 14 drive-in sites equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, suitable for tents and small to medium-sized RVs. Although there are no utility hookups, amenities include accessible pit toilets and trash collection. Campers can enjoy a boardwalk trail through a unique muskeg habitat and nearby hiking trails like the Harris River and Twentymile Spur trails, which lead to serene beaver ponds. Fishing opportunities abound in the Harris River, home to salmon, trout, and steelhead species.
Within a 30-minute radius, visitors can explore the towns of Craig and Klawock, which provide essential services, as well as cultural and recreational opportunities. The Harris River Interpretive Trail, just two miles from the campground, offers insight into the area's ecological restoration efforts, while the region's vibrant wildlife and fishing culture make it ideal for extended stays or weekend getaways.
