About Haviland Lake Campground
Cradled on the shimmering shores of an 80-acre no-wake lake and surrounded by the towering ponderosa pines of the San Juan National Forest, Haviland Lake Campground offers a tranquil respite just 18 miles north of Durango, Colorado. Its stunning views of the Hermosa Cliffs, lakeside access, and wealth of recreational activities make it an ideal destination for nature enthusiasts and families alike.
The campground features 43 campsites, including options with electrical hookups, and amenities such as campfire rings, picnic tables, drinking water, and accessible vault toilets. Many sites boast lake views, and several are just steps away from the shoreline. Visitors can enjoy fishing for rainbow and brown trout, canoeing, or kayaking on the serene, motor-free waters of Haviland Lake, which also includes an accessible fishing dock. For hikers, the Forebay Lake Trail begins directly at the campground, leading to a more secluded alpine lake a mile away. History buffs will appreciate the nearby historic Rico-to-Rockwood Wagon Road, dating back to the late 1800s.
Conveniently located just 20 minutes from Durango, the campground also serves as a gateway to the cultural and recreational attractions of the region, including mountain biking trails and horseback riding opportunities. With its combination of natural beauty, quiet ambiance, and proximity to activities, Haviland Lake Campground is an excellent choice for weekend getaways, extended stays, or day trips.
