About Highlands Hammock State Park Campground
Highlands Hammock State Park Campground, located just four miles west of Sebring, Florida, combines remarkable natural diversity with historical charm, offering a serene escape into one of Florida’s oldest state parks. Campers can enjoy shaded sites under towering oaks, a variety of outdoor activities, and the convenience of modern amenities alongside rich ecological and historical attractions.
The campground features 143 sites accommodating tents, trailers, and RVs, all equipped with water and electric hookups, as well as picnic tables and fire rings. Facilities include clean restrooms with showers, a laundry area, and a dump station, ensuring a comfortable stay. While the sites are relatively close together with limited vegetation for privacy, their proximity to nature is unmatched. Deer, raccoons, and even the occasional black bear roam the area, providing plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities. For those seeking a more primitive experience, equestrian and group camping areas are also available.
Surrounding the campground, Highlands Hammock State Park boasts over 9,000 acres of preserved ecosystems, including pine flatwoods, cypress swamps, and ancient oak hammocks. Visitors can explore nine short but captivating hiking trails, such as the Fern Garden Trail and Cypress Swamp Trail, or cycle along a scenic three-mile loop drive. The park also features a Civilian Conservation Corps Museum and offers a tram tour for closer encounters with local wildlife, including alligators and wading birds. Within a short drive, downtown Sebring provides access to dining, shopping, and supplies, making this a convenient base for both day trips and extended stays.
Ideal for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and families alike, Highlands Hammock State Park Campground blends comfort with an authentic connection to Old Florida’s unspoiled splendor.
