Campground Overview
About Hospital Flat Campground
What sets Hospital Flat Campground apart is its proximity to the wild and scenic Kern River, offering an immersive outdoor experience with easy access to some of California's most thrilling water activities. Located just 6.5 miles north of Kernville in Sequoia National Forest, this campground is an ideal choice for nature enthusiasts, allowing visitors to enjoy fishing, rafting, and kayaking right from their doorstep while surrounded by rugged terrain and shaded by a mix of pines and cottonwoods.
The campground features 40 individual sites, including riverside options, as well as a single group site, with basic yet well-maintained amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, and potable water. Although designed for both tents and smaller RVs (up to 30 feet), some sites may require careful setup due to rocky terrain. The peaceful ambiance is complemented by nearby recreational opportunities such as the Cannell Meadow National Recreation Trail, and day trips to the Trail of 100 Giants and Lake Isabella are within easy reach.
Situated at an elevation of 3,000 feet, Hospital Flat blends the serene beauty of the Kern River Canyon with convenient access to Kernville—a charming foothill town known for its outdoor outfitters and local culture. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway for fishing and hiking or seeking the thrill of whitewater rafting, this campground offers an unforgettable escape into the wonders of California's Sierra Nevada.
