Campground Overview
About House Creek Recreation Complex
Perched on the shores of McPhee Reservoir, Colorado's second-largest body of water, House Creek Recreation Complex offers campers unparalleled access to aquatic recreation, panoramic views, and a serene escape into the San Juan National Forest. This campground is defined by its excellent boating, fishing, and water sports opportunities, combined with an array of thoughtfully designed facilities that cater to families and outdoor enthusiasts.
The campground provides 22 campsites arranged in three loops, featuring a mix of reservable and first-come, first-served options, as well as a group area. Amenities include electric hookups at select sites, shaded shelters, picnic tables, campfire rings, potable water, and vault toilets. A boat ramp, spacious open play areas, and nearby picnic spots enhance the appeal for both short trips and extended stays. While the gently sloping grassy terrain offers convenience, shade is minimal, and summer temperatures can rise—preparation is essential.
Located just 13 miles from Dolores, this site is ideal for exploring the region’s rich Ancestral Puebloan history, with the well-regarded Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center & Museum within a 30-minute drive. The campground is also a convenient base for day trips to the surrounding Four Corners region, making it an inviting blend of recreation, history, and natural beauty.
