Campground Overview
About Hovenweep Campground
The Hovenweep Campground offers an oasis of tranquility amidst ancient Puebloan ruins and sweeping desert vistas. This intimate 31-site campground provides a rare opportunity to camp in close proximity to remarkably preserved 800-year-old stone towers and structures. The campground's layout thoughtfully balances privacy with easy access to hiking trails and archaeological sites.
Situated just a quarter mile from the Hovenweep National Monument visitor center, the campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the monument's six prehistoric villages. Sites are nestled among Utah juniper trees, offering partial shade and natural screening. Each site features a tent pad, picnic table, and fire ring with grill. While primarily designed for tent camping, a few sites can accommodate RVs up to 36 feet in length.
The campground's location, 45 miles from the nearest town, ensures a deeply immersive desert experience. Stargazers will appreciate the monument's designation as an International Dark Sky Park, providing unparalleled celestial viewing. During the day, visitors can hike the 2-mile Little Ruin Canyon Trail to closely observe the ancient structures or venture to nearby Canyons of the Ancients National Monument for additional archaeological exploration.
