Campground Overview
About Huginnin Cove Campground
Rugged shorelines and pristine wilderness await at Huginnin Cove Campground, a remote backcountry gem offering unparalleled solitude and breathtaking Lake Superior vistas. This primitive campground, accessible only by foot or paddle, provides an immersive Isle Royale experience with its secluded location and untamed beauty. Five well-spaced sites nestle along the rocky cove, each offering direct access to the shoreline and panoramic views of the Canadian coast on clear days.
The campground's isolation and lack of amenities create an authentic wilderness camping experience. A composting toilet is the sole facility, with no potable water available on-site. Campers must be self-sufficient, adhering to Leave No Trace principles and carrying all necessary supplies. The surrounding old-growth forest and rugged coastline provide ample opportunities for wildlife watching, with moose and loons frequently sighted in the area.
Located on the northern shore of Isle Royale's western end, Huginnin Cove is approximately a 3-4 hour hike from the Windigo visitor center. The challenging trek along the Huginnin Cove Loop trail rewards hikers with stunning coastal views and the chance to explore abandoned copper mine remnants. For those seeking a true wilderness escape, Huginnin Cove serves as an ideal basecamp for further exploration of Isle Royale's network of backcountry trails and pristine shorelines.
