About Humbug Mountain State Park
How often do you find a campground that combines towering coastal peaks, sheltered campsites, and direct access to both dense forests and a serene sandy beach? Humbug Mountain State Park Campground, located just six miles south of Port Orford along Highway 101, offers precisely that, making it a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and relaxation-seekers alike.
This forest-ringed campground is tucked into the base of one of the Oregon coast’s highest headlands, providing excellent natural wind protection and one of the warmest microclimates in the region. The campground features 95 campsites, including 40 with water and electrical hookups and 55 tent sites, as well as a separate hiker/biker area for adventurers on the Oregon Coast Trail. Modern amenities such as flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station ensure convenience, while the proximity of Brush Creek and the nearby beach creates a tranquil atmosphere. While some sites are close to the highway and may experience traffic noise, the overall setting is serene and deeply connected to nature.
For recreation, you’ll find on-site hiking trails like the 5.5-mile Humbug Mountain Loop Trail, which ascends to the 1,756-foot summit for breathtaking coastal views. A sandy beach, accessible via a short trail from the campground, offers opportunities for fishing, tide-pooling, and peaceful strolls. Within a 30-minute drive, visitors can explore Port Orford’s charming community, Cape Blanco, or Arizona Beach, offering diverse day-trip options.
Humbug Mountain State Park Campground is ideal for extended vacations and weekend getaways alike, thanks to its blend of natural beauty, outdoor activities, and visitor-friendly facilities. Whether you’re hiking to sweeping vistas, enjoying the ocean, or escaping the coastal wind, this campground offers an unforgettable Oregon Coast experience.
