About Jackrabbit Mountain Campground
How does a campground on the wooded shores of Lake Chatuge, complete with direct access to tranquil waters and a playground of outdoor activities, sound for your next getaway? Jackrabbit Mountain Campground in Hayesville, North Carolina, exceeds expectations with its lakeside serenity, well-maintained facilities, and an array of recreational opportunities that cater to families, outdoor enthusiasts, and explorers alike.
Located on a peninsula in the Nantahala National Forest, this campground boasts 92 forested sites spread across three loops, many offering lake views. While Loops A and B are more family-oriented with convenient access to a sandy swimming beach and biking paths, Loop C provides a quieter retreat with elevated views. Guests enjoy modern amenities such as flush toilets, hot showers, and a picnic pavilion, as well as essentials like picnic tables, fire rings, and lantern posts at every campsite. Though RVs are welcome, hookups are not available, and an on-site dump station is provided.
Just steps from your site, Lake Chatuge’s expansive 130-mile shoreline invites swimming, fishing, kayaking, and boating. The campground connects directly to trail systems, including a 2.4-mile loop ideal for hikers and 15 miles of mountain biking trails that wind along the lake and through wooded ridges. Within a short drive, the Fires Creek Recreation Area offers additional hiking, and marinas nearby allow for boat rentals.
Situated less than 15 minutes east of Hayesville, Jackrabbit Mountain Campground provides not only a base for lakeside adventure but also easy access to small-town charm and the outdoor riches of southern Appalachia. Whether you’re planning a weekend escape or a longer retreat, this destination blends natural beauty with thoughtful amenities for a memorable camping experience.
