Campground Overview
About Juniper Springs Campground
The enchanting Juniper Springs Recreation Area Campground offers a serene escape within the lush Ocala National Forest, defined by its shaded campsites, crystal-clear springs, and abundant recreational opportunities. This campground stands out for its proximity to natural wonders, including the renowned Juniper Run canoe trail, its historic Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) structures from the 1930s, and the idyllic spring-fed swimming area.
Located along State Road 40, just 30 minutes from Ocala, the campground’s setting features three loops of shaded campsites under a canopy of oaks and palms. Campsites come equipped with picnic tables, grills, fire rings, and lantern posts, and while there are no RV hookups, amenities like hot showers, flush toilets, and a nearby dump station ensure comfort. The adjacent springs provide the perfect backdrop for swimming or snorkeling in 72-degree water, while the 7-mile Juniper Run, a top-rated canoe trail, winds through breathtaking old-growth forest. Visitors can also explore short nature trails and enjoy summer interpretive programs.
Additionally, the site allows easy access to nearby attractions such as Lake George, off-road trails, and other recreational opportunities within the expansive Big Scrub ecosystem. Juniper Springs combines rustic camping with immersion in Florida’s natural beauty, making it ideal for extended stays, weekend getaways, or adventurous day trips.
