Kickapoo Cavern State Park

Isolated in the rugged hill country near Brackettville, Texas, Kickapoo Cavern State Park offers a tranquil escape characterized by its awe-inspiring caves, diverse wildlife, and unspoiled natural landscapes. This serene campground stands out for its intimate connection with nature, the signature Stuart Bat Cave evening flight spectacle, and a mix of well-equipped and primitive campsites catering to diverse camping preferences.

The campground includes 15 sites: five full-hookup spaces for small RVs (up to 36 feet) and ten water-only sites suitable for tents or small campers. Each site is equipped with essentials such as picnic tables, fire rings, and nearby restrooms with showers. There is also a group site accommodating up to 30 people, perfect for gatherings. The absence of trash facilities ensures a "pack it in, pack it out" ethos, preserving the pristine environment. Visitors can enjoy unparalleled stargazing opportunities due to minimal light pollution, and the quiet seclusion adds to the park's charm.

Located approximately 25 miles from Brackettville, this park is defined by unique geological and biological attractions, including Kickapoo Cavern and Stuart Bat Cave. Guided tours of the expansive caverns reveal impressive rock formations, while seasonal bat flights from mid-March to October showcase the spectacle of thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats. Outdoor enthusiasts will also find nearly 18 miles of hiking trails offering panoramic views and wildlife encounters, making this a prime destination for extended stays or weekend getaways.
