About Kings Mountain State Park
Does Kings Mountain State Park defy expectations for a historic state park camping experience? With its seamless blend of heritage, outdoor recreation, and well-equipped campsites, it offers a rich and versatile camping destination. Situated on the border of South Carolina and North Carolina near Blacksburg, Kings Mountain State Park spans over 6,800 acres of hilly wooded terrain and is adjacent to both Kings Mountain National Military Park and Crowders Mountain State Park, forming a trifecta of outdoor and historical exploration within a 30-minute radius.
The park's campground features 115 sites with water and electric hookups, 10 tent-only sites, and an equestrian campground boasting 15 sites, giving it broad appeal to RVers, tent campers, and horse enthusiasts alike. Each site provides a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, with amenities including hot showers, flush toilets, a dump station, and a camp store. The shaded campsites, many set among tall trees, offer a serene and natural setting, though some sites may have uneven terrain. Recreational facilities include a playground, volleyball and basketball courts, and easy access to over 16 miles of trails, ranging from the gentle Living History Farm Trail to the Ridgeline Trail, which connects to neighboring parks.
Noteworthy attractions include the Living History Farm, a 19th-century farm replica offering a self-guided glimpse into the past, and two picturesque lakes, Lake York and Lake Crawford, where visitors can fish, canoe, or kayak. Scenic paved roads welcome cyclists, and equestrians can enjoy 30 miles of dedicated trails. Kings Mountain State Park provides an excellent base for day trips, weekend getaways, or longer vacations, with opportunities to immerse yourself in nature, history, and adventure at every turn.
