Campground Overview
About Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park
Echoing with the mystery of subterranean wonders and offering a diverse camping experience, the Lewis & Clark Caverns State Park Campground stands out for its geological marvels, expansive views of the Jefferson River valley, and thoughtfully designed facilities. Ideal for adventurers and nature enthusiasts, this campground offers easy access to the largest limestone caverns in the northwest, picturesque hiking trails, stargazing opportunities, and rich local history.
The campground features 40 campsites accommodating tents, RVs, and trailers, along with three cabins, a tipi, and a designated group camping area. Select sites provide 50-amp electric hookups, while potable water, accessible showers, flush toilets, and a dump station are available seasonally. While some sites offer partial shade, the arid climate and open environment mean winds can be strong, so preparation is essential. Wildlife sightings are common around the well-maintained sites, and the visitor center offers interpretative exhibits, seasonal programs, and guided cavern tours, which are the park’s primary allure. Trails from the campground provide access to scenic overlooks and the caverns, with the stalactites and stalagmites creating an otherworldly spectacle.
Located near Whitehall, Montana, and approximately 30 minutes from Three Forks, the park provides a gateway to explore the Jefferson River and nearby attractions like Missouri Headwaters State Park. Whether for a weekend getaway or as part of a longer road trip, this campground combines adventure, education, and relaxation with unique natural beauty.
