Campground Overview
About Lost Creek Campground
Where rugged backcountry charm meets serene simplicity, Lost Creek Campground offers a no-frills escape into Wyoming’s wilderness. Located 18 miles west of Encampment along Highway 70, this secluded campground features 13 intimate campsites nestled at an elevation of 8,800 feet. It appeals most to those seeking a quiet retreat with access to vast outdoor opportunities rather than extensive modern amenities.
Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table, fire grate, and nearby vault toilet, though it is a pack-in, pack-out location with no trash services. There is also no potable water available on-site, so campers must bring their own. Adjacent to the Baby Lakes Trail and Huston Park Wilderness, the area teems with hiking paths, opportunities for wildlife viewing—often including deer, moose, and elk—and nearby fishing streams. ATV riders will also appreciate access to Forest Road 811, which traces the wilderness boundary. This destination is particularly scenic during summer and autumn when the cycling-friendly Highway 70 showcases exceptional views.
Lost Creek Campground is well suited for tranquil weekend getaways or as a starting point for outdoor adventures, with a 14-day stay limit ensuring turnover. Its close proximity to Encampment positions it as a convenient yet peaceful base for immersing in the region’s natural beauty. The experience is unapologetically rustic, offering a definitive connection to Wyoming’s wild landscapes.
