Campground Overview
About Mammoth Campground
At Mammoth Campground, elk bugle through crisp mountain air as steam rises from nearby thermal features, offering a quintessential Yellowstone experience just five miles from the park's North Entrance. This year-round campground balances proximity to services with a wild, high-country feel, set among sagebrush and scattered juniper at 6,200 feet elevation. Sites accommodate tents and RVs up to 75 feet, with most arranged as convenient pull-throughs.
Located in Yellowstone's northern reaches, Mammoth Campground provides an ideal base for exploring the famous travertine terraces of Mammoth Hot Springs and watching for wildlife in the Lamar Valley. The historic Fort Yellowstone and Mammoth village area lie within walking distance, offering dining, shopping, and visitor services. Hiking trails lead directly from the campground into the surrounding wilderness.
Campers can expect basic amenities including potable water, flush toilets, and fire rings with grates at each site. While hookups are not available, a generator use period from 8am to 8pm allows for some electrical conveniences. The campground's location strikes a balance between accessibility and immersion in nature, attracting a mix of overnight travelers and extended-stay visitors eager to deeply explore Yellowstone's wonders.
