About Martin Dies Jr. State Park
What sets Martin Dies Jr. State Park apart is its seamless blend of tranquil waterfront camping and the incredible biodiversity of East Texas’s Pineywoods region. Located along the scenic shores of B.A. Steinhagen Reservoir between Jasper and Woodville, the park offers lush forested campsites, serene paddling trails, and opportunities to observe an array of wildlife from towering bald cypress trees to elusive bobcats and herons.
The campground features both tent and RV sites, many with electric and water hookups, as well as screened shelters and cabins for those seeking extra comfort. With over 200 sites spread across two main camping areas, Hen House Ridge and Walnut Ridge, campers can choose between lakeside views or secluded forest settings. Amenities include restrooms with hot showers, lighted fishing piers, boat ramps, and a designated swimming area. Outdoor enthusiasts will find a variety of activities, from biking on eight miles of forested trails to kayaking along 14 miles of marked paddling routes, such as the serene Sandy Creek Paddling Trail. Wildlife sightings are abundant, with white-tailed deer, alligators, and numerous bird species drawing nature lovers and photographers alike.
Just a short drive from downtown Jasper, the park is perfectly situated for day trips or extended stays in a setting that highlights the beauty of the Angelina and Neches rivers' convergence. Whether you're fishing at dawn, paddling through swampy sloughs, or stargazing under some of the darkest skies in Texas, Martin Dies Jr. State Park offers an exceptional retreat into nature for families, solo adventurers, and outdoor enthusiasts.
