About Mashamoquet Brook State Park
What sets Mashamoquet Brook State Park Campground apart is its rich tapestry of history, natural beauty, and accessible outdoor activities, all situated in the serene landscapes of Connecticut's Quiet Corner. This 1,000-acre park offers two distinct camping areas—the Mashamoquet Brook Campground with 20 wooded, primitive sites and portable toilets, and the Wolf Den Campground featuring 35 sites equipped with restroom and shower facilities. Both campgrounds provide fire rings, picnic tables, and a tranquil atmosphere that immerses campers in nature.
The park’s centerpiece is the historic Wolf Den, where Revolutionary War figure Israel Putnam killed the last documented wolf in Connecticut, a moment immortalized by a commemorative plaque. Adventurers will find several hiking trails suitable for all skill levels, leading to unique geological formations like Table Rock and Indian Chair. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy the “stream of good fishing” that gives the park its name, while wildlife viewing and birdwatching opportunities abound.
Located in Pomfret, a quaint New England town, the park is an easy drive from charming locales like Putnam, offering antique shops and dining options. The campus serves as an ideal basecamp for weekend getaways or day excursions, bringing together Connecticut’s historical heritage and the restorative tranquility of its natural surroundings.
