Campground Overview
About Middle Fork of the Powder River Campground
Rugged red cliffs tower above the Middle Fork of the Powder River Campground, a remote outpost that offers adventurous campers a true taste of Wyoming's untamed wilderness. This BLM-managed campground provides a rustic base for exploring the legendary Outlaw Country, with just five primitive sites nestled along a blue-ribbon trout stream.
The campground's isolated setting rewards visitors with unspoiled natural beauty and opportunities for solitude. Each site features a fire ring and picnic table, while a vault toilet and drinking water spigot offer basic amenities. The surrounding landscape invites exploration, with hiking trails winding through sagebrush-dotted hills and red rock canyons that once sheltered infamous outlaws like Butch Cassidy.
Located about 21 miles southwest of Kaycee, the Middle Fork campground serves as a gateway to the scenic Red Wall country. The area's rich Western history comes alive at nearby attractions like the Hoofprints of the Past Museum in Kaycee, where exhibits detail the region's outlaw lore and ranching heritage. For outdoor enthusiasts, the campground provides an ideal basecamp for fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing in the surrounding public lands.
