About Middle Mountain Campground

What sets Middle Mountain Campground apart is its stunning lakeside position on Vallecito Reservoir, where campers enjoy southern exposure, grassy shorelines, and refreshing afternoon breezes. This peaceful campground offers incredible natural beauty, shaded sites, and close proximity to the rugged landscapes of the San Juan National Forest, perfect for those seeking water activities and wilderness exploration.

The campground features 24 first-come, first-served sites, including options for tents and small to large RVs. Each site is equipped with a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, while the campground provides amenities like drinking water, vault toilets, trash collection, and firewood for gathering. Ponderosa pines and aspen trees offer some shade, though the open, sunny layout makes it uniquely inviting. Outdoor enthusiasts can paddleboard, fish, hike nearby trails, or take Forest Road 724 to access the Weminuche Wilderness, where motorized vehicles are prohibited.

Located approximately 30 minutes from Bayfield, Colorado, Middle Mountain Campground is accessible via scenic County Road 501. Its placement on the east side of Vallecito Reservoir is ideal for day trips, weekend getaways, or longer stays filled with fishing, boating, and wilderness hikes.
