About Newaygo State Park
Perched on 20-foot embankments above the Hardy Dam Pond, Newaygo State Park Campground offers a rustic retreat amidst Michigan’s natural beauty, with access to forested trails, peaceful water views, and an abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities. The campground features spacious, wooded sites distributed across two rustic camping areas, providing a blend of privacy and immersion in nature. Although basic in amenities, with no water or electric hookups, there are potable water stations, clean restrooms, and showers to ensure comfort during your stay.
Located just five miles from the town of Newaygo and bordering the Manistee National Forest, the park allows visitors to enjoy activities like hiking, boating, and disc golf on its on-site 18-hole course. Hardy Dam Pond, a six-mile reservoir of the Muskegon River, provides fishing opportunities, a small swimming area, and boat launches for water enthusiasts. Additionally, outdoor adventurers will appreciate the proximity to the Dragon Trail, a scenic multi-use trail, and the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park, both accessible within a 30-minute drive. Newaygo State Park is an ideal destination for weekend getaways or nature-focused vacations, offering a serene escape into Michigan’s great outdoors.
