North Fork John Day Campground

Set at the scenic junction of the Blue Mountain and Elkhorn Scenic Byways, North Fork John Day Campground offers an unparalleled gateway into Oregon's rugged wilderness. This 20-site Forest Service campground is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, featuring shaded sites nestled within a lodgepole pine forest, three accessible vault toilets, and stock-handling facilities for equestrian visitors. As the eastern access point to the North Fork John Day Wilderness, it caters to hikers, horseback riders, and hunters, while anglers can enjoy fishing in the adjacent river known for migrating chinook salmon and steelhead. Visitors can also appreciate seasonal activities like berry picking and mushroom foraging, or engage with the area's rich mining history and protected artifacts.
