Campground Overview
About North Rim Campground
Rugged isolation meets breathtaking canyon views at North Rim Campground, where 13 primitive sites offer an intimate wilderness experience on the quieter side of Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. This small, first-come, first-served campground provides basic amenities amidst a picturesque pinyon-juniper forest, with each site featuring a fire ring, picnic table, and food storage locker.
The campground's location atop the North Rim rewards visitors with easy access to awe-inspiring overlooks and challenging hiking trails. A short walk from your tent leads to Chasm View, offering vertigo-inducing views of the canyon's sheer walls plunging 2,000 feet to the Gunnison River below. For the adventurous, the North Vista Trail starts nearby, winding through sage-scented hills to Exclamation Point for even more dramatic vistas.
Situated 11 miles southwest of Crawford, Colorado, North Rim Campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the park's less-visited northern section. The remote setting and lack of light pollution create perfect conditions for stargazing, while daytime activities include rock climbing, wildlife watching, and photography. This campground appeals to those seeking a true escape into nature, where the only sounds are wind through the pines and the distant rush of the river far below.
