Ochoco Divide Campground

Perched at an elevation of 4,700 feet within a fragrant ponderosa pine forest, Ochoco Divide Campground offers a serene stopover or retreat for travelers exploring Central Oregon’s scenic Highway 26. Its convenient access from the highway is paired with a peaceful atmosphere created by a blend of towering trees and grassy meadows, making it ideal for rest and relaxation. This modest yet well-maintained campground balances accessibility with the charm of a high-altitude forest setting.

The campground features 25 individual sites, including three accessible ones, and a reservable group area for up to 35 guests. Each site is outfitted with picnic tables, fire rings, and access to clean vault toilets and potable water. While the tranquil environment is a hallmark of this location, sites near the road may experience occasional noise from passing traffic. The surrounding Ochoco National Forest offers diverse recreational opportunities such as hiking, mountain biking, birding, and hunting, with several trailheads conveniently located nearby. For geology enthusiasts, the forest is home to Oregon's state rock, the thunder egg, which can be collected at designated rock-hounding sites.

Situated 30 miles east of Prineville, the campground is an excellent base for exploring regional highlights within a 30-minute drive, including the striking Painted Hills and John Day Fossil Beds National Monument.
