About Paxson Lake BLM Campground
How does a tranquil base for serene lake adventures and endless wilderness exploration sound? Paxson Lake Campground pairs its prime location along the shores of Paxson Lake with direct access to the Gulkana River, offering an idyllic retreat for campers seeking natural beauty, calm waters, and exceptional recreation opportunities.
This Bureau of Land Management campground boasts 45 well-maintained sites spread across forested loops, with some positioned close to the lake for easy access. It includes walk-in and ADA-accessible sites, along with amenities like picnic tables, fire rings, toilets, drinking water, and a boat launch. Anglers will appreciate fishing opportunities for rainbow trout, grayling, and burbot, while paddlers can enjoy kayaking or canoeing on the clear lake waters. Trails near the campground facilitate hiking and exploring the surrounding wilderness, with stunning glacier views adding to the allure.
Located at Milepost 175 on the Richardson Highway, the campground sits about 25 miles from the small community of Paxson and less than a 30-minute drive from the rugged, scenic highlights of the Tangle Lakes Archaeological District. This makes it an excellent base for both short escapes and extended stays, creating a seamless connection between the unspoiled landscape of Alaska's interior and the simple pleasures of a well-equipped campsite.
