Campground Overview
About Picacho Peak State Park
Framed by the iconic silhouette of its namesake peak, Picacho Peak State Park Campground offers an immersive Sonoran Desert experience with striking views, modern amenities, and direct access to some of Arizona's most challenging and scenic hiking trails. This campground distinguishes itself with its electric-equipped sites, accessible for both RVs and tents, as well as shaded ramadas and picnic areas, ensuring comfort in an otherwise stark desert environment.
Located just off Interstate 10, halfway between Tucson and Phoenix, the campground serves as an ideal base for exploring the park's dramatic natural and cultural history. Signature trails like Hunter Trail and Sunset Vista Trail lead adventurous hikers to the summit of Picacho Peak, while easier options such as the Nature and Children’s Cave Trails provide leisurely exploration opportunities. Seasonal highlights include vibrant spring wildflower blooms and the unique "Civil War in the Southwest" reenactment in March.
For overnight stays, the campground provides 85 paved, level campsites with picnic tables, fire rings, and clean restroom and shower facilities. While there are no water or sewer hookups, a dump station is available for registered campers. Nearby, the Rooster Cogburn Ostrich Ranch offers an unexpected detour where guests can interact with exotic wildlife, just minutes from the park. This desert sanctuary blends rugged beauty with historical intrigue and convenience, making it an excellent destination for hikers, history buffs, and nature lovers.
