About Posey Lake Campground

Perched high on the Colorado Plateau at 8,700 feet, Posey Lake Campground in southern Utah’s Dixie National Forest offers a serene escape surrounded by towering pines, vibrant aspens, and dazzling summer wildflowers. This rustic retreat is ideal for campers seeking tranquility, fishing opportunities, and direct access to remarkable hiking trails. Its elevation ensures cool summer temperatures, making it a favorite destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

The campground features 21 individual sites and one group site, all equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and bear-proof storage boxes. Vault toilets and seasonal drinking water are available, although visitors must pack out all trash as there is no waste disposal service. Adjacent to the campground, Posey Lake provides a peaceful setting for rainbow and brook trout fishing, canoeing, kayaking, and non-motorized boating, with a boat ramp and two docks enhancing the convenience. Two scenic hiking trails begin at the campground: the Posey Overlook Trail offers striking views, while the Posey Spur Trail connects to the Great Western Trail, perfect for hiking and mountain biking.

Located just 16 miles from the charming town of Escalante, the campground serves as a gateway to nearby attractions, including the Escalante Petrified Forest State Park and the breathtaking landscapes of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, both within a 30-minute drive. Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or a basecamp for exploring southern Utah, Posey Lake Campground delivers a quintessential high-altitude camping experience wrapped in natural beauty and outdoor adventure.
