Prairie Flower Recreation Area combines expansive lakeside views, vibrant prairie landscapes, and family-friendly amenities to create a camping destination that feels both serene and engaging. Located within the 26,000-acre Saylorville Lake Project in Johnston, Iowa, the campground provides a remarkable setting for outdoor enthusiasts, just 20 minutes from Des Moines.

This large, open campground spans over 60 acres and offers a mix of 153 family campsites and 10 group sites, all equipped with electric hookups. Many of the family sites, particularly those on the southern end, boast picturesque views of Saylorville Lake. Key amenities include modern restrooms, showers, a dump station, and drinking water, ensuring a comfortable stay. Prairie Flower also features playgrounds, group shelters, a swimming beach, and nearby access to boat ramps and fishing docks, catering to a variety of recreational interests. The campground showcases Iowa's prairie heritage with over 40 acres of native grass and wildflower plantings, creating a colorful landscape rich in wildlife.
