Campground Overview
About Prospector Campground
Expansive views of the Dillon Reservoir, the surrounding Gore and Tenmile mountain ranges, and an array of vibrant meadows define the striking character of Prospector Campground. Situated at 9,000 feet in the White River National Forest, this campground offers a serene alpine escape combined with proximity to exceptional outdoor recreation opportunities.
The campground features 105 spacious sites accommodating tents, trailers, and RVs, with essential amenities such as picnic tables, fire rings, vault toilets, and potable water. While shade is sparse due to past pine beetle infestations, the open layout allows for unobstructed vistas of the lake and mountains. The location’s tranquility is complemented by nearby activities, including hiking, biking, canoeing, and fishing in the crystal-clear waters of Dillon Reservoir. A short drive leads to Dillon and Frisco, where visitors can find groceries, dining, and cultural exploration.
Located just ten minutes from Dillon and accessible via smooth gravel roads off Swan Mountain Road, Prospector Campground is an ideal base for weekend getaways or extended mountain retreats. Whether you're paddling on the reservoir, hiking the Ptarmigan Wilderness, or simply stargazing under Colorado’s brilliant night sky, this campground delivers an authentic Rocky Mountain experience.
